Do you know this situation: A person is walking on the street and is offering something special to the surrounding just by their appearance. You feel like going to the person and telling it to him/her but you also don't want to appear as the creepy stranger. For this situation we printed tons of this "Beautiful"-cards to give people the opportunity to express easily a positive feeling without thinking too much how you come across to the reciever. And it also implies the possibility to give it away again. A card should not stay longer at one place then for a week. Sharing.Graphic Design2013 -

This book is a project realized by the Foreign Legion. Featuring photographs from the artist Taf Hassam (UK) and writings from the journalist and architectural historian Roel Griffioen (NL). The book was about how a small neighborhood in Amsterdam was purposely being downgraded for money.

The LOVE symbol is special for me in many ways. It is not just the signature of the Foreign Legion but also the starting point for it. The symbol is strong but not aggressive, understandable but not flat. By wearing the shirt it connects people who are sharing the same perspective and gives a first impression what we are about as a group.Fashion, Graphic Design2013 -
I melted two books into each other. ‘Mein Kampf’ by Hitler (That text was given to me by the assignment) and ‘The Dream Of A Ridiculous Man’ by Dostojevski. After the first chapter I changed the story of Mein Kampf and combined it with the story of Dostojevski. So Hitler as a boy is leaving his hometown (That is how the first chapter ends) and is falling asleep (That is how The Dream Of A Ridiculous Man starts). To literally meld the stories together I created 50 steps between the font Schwabacher Fraktur and Gill. On each page the font changes a bit and also the complete layout changed page by page.Graphic Design2013 -

Sountentety (derived from the English ‘sound’ and ‘content’) is a method that makes it easier to comprehend a text and thus to understand and internalize it. In edition to the two layers that a text consists of, the sound and the content, there is a third and most important layer the movement or gestures that represent the text and aid to in understanding the deeper meaning.
To gain an in–depth knowledge it is required to systematically understand a text and therefore merge these two layers again that we distinguished before.Graphic Design, Performing Arts2013 -
From the ‘Importance of being happy’ series: Text ‘smile’ to the number on the poster and I will send you a smile (emoticon) and a personal text back. These posters were posted around the city of Amsterdam. More than 200 smiles were sent with my personal phone.

A poster I made to advertise my workshop at the Pavao festival in Esdi, Rio de Janeiro.

The poster shows symbols and relations to this topic.
George Lucas did not invent the Star Wars 3D font. It was also used in different films before. Walt Disney copied the Micked Mouse from another mouse. The font in the right bottom is standing for Led Zeppelin. The band also covered a lot of songs and became famous for it. In the very background you can see a paiting by Andy Warhole who made use of the remix a lot of times. The font in the bottom right relates to the Beatles t-shirt by Experimental Jetset which is kind of famous and got remixed a lot of times. You can see the window of a Mac. Mac copied a lot from other software platforms and computers like Xerox. The big cut in the middle is standing for the cut up technique. It is a technique of writers in the 60s to create abstract literature. The litterally cut their texts and put them back together in a new order. In the top left you can see the Ford logo. Ford did not invent the assembly line or the automobile. He just combined it to make the first mass produced car. A big book about electricity boxes. It’s height is 60 centimeters and it weights several kilos. It contains interviews with famous electricity boxes, stories, pictures, and drawings about them. What if electricity boxes were alive? What if they observe us hu- mans every day? The book gives you a look in the world of an electricity box.

This performance is part of the Holland Festival 2012. I am trying to pick up exactly 1 kilogram of paper. If I fail I have to give the paper to Nam Hee (right). F.I.R.E.I.N.C.A.I.R.O.[nbsp]was a temporary Live Radio/Event Space and Publishing House, inspired in part by the renowned Belfast independent record label, Good Vibrations. The project was a collaboration with the artist run space Goleb, the UK community radio station Soundart Radio (102.5FM), and the Gerrit Rietveld Academie’s own independent radio station Radio Rietveld. Logo and businesscard for the dj and producer Daniel Zuur in Amsterdam. His music is quite rough and not perfect and clean at all. So the logo is cut out by hand and printed with a bad printer, scanned again and bitmapped. With this method we also get a rough and dirty but still readable and recognizable result.

A small brochure we made with the Foreign Legion for the Goleb.[nbsp]Goleb* is an artist led space located on the second floor of a former school building (De Vlugt) in Amsterdam New-West. Goleb has nine studios all-varying in size from 25m2 to 130m2, and a project space of 70m2. One studio is offered as part of an artist in residency program while the project space and the studios are regularly made available for the realization of various projects and events.Graphic Design2013 -
The Pofalte is a self-published magazine by the Foreign Legion. The rules for the magazine are simple: It has to be done today and in the middle of the magazine is a pofalte. That is a german word for the gap in your butt…

Benefit Party in Maastricht for Viva Con Agua – organized by Dave Caspers.
Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli is a charitable organisation based in St. Pauli, Hamburg (Germany), campaigning for clean drinking water worldwide.
The posters are printed on old newspapers. That goes with the concept of using sustainable material.

A Guide To Amsterdam's Self-Organized Art Initiatives is a new DIY publication produced by the Amsterdam Dinner Movement in collaboration with the design group the Foreign Legion. The publication is designed to be an ever-growing listing of the self-organized spaces in Amsterdam, any art initiative can join (by simply following the instructions on the back) and is DIY in the sense that it only physically exists as a cover–the content can be downloaded and printed from the internet for free. As such, much like the dinner movement itself, its distribution is controlled by any art space that wishes to host it, be it in their space or on their website.
